Biography
After completing an apprenticeship as a machinist and studying industrial design at the Werkkunstschule in Wuppertal, Günter Beltzig founded ‘Brüder Beltzig Design’ with his brothers Berthold and Ernst. Having spent many years designing electrical appliances for Siemens, he went on to specialise in the manufacture of plastic furniture through his own company. Since 1971, he has held several positions as a visiting lecturer, including at Munich University of Applied Sciences, Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, and the Leeds School of Design. In addition, he has been a freelance consultant for Richter Spielgeräte in Frasdorf since 1994. With his famous Floris chair, Günter Beltzig treaded a fine line between functional object and sculpture. The chair is reminiscent of both a human figure and a pistil, whilst at the same time enabling ergonomic seating.
